Ukraine and France have agreed to strengthen their defense cooperation, under which Ukraine will be the first to receive new, upgraded French-Italian SAMP/T NG anti-ballistic missile systems and two SAMP/T systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Facebook on Tuesday, July 14.

Following talks with French President Emmanuel Macron and discussions between the two teams, an agreement has been reached for Ukraine to receive licenses to manufacture SCALP missiles and AASM bombs, and, jointly with Italy, Aster 30 missiles, Zelenskyy noted. According to him, France will also cooperate within the framework of the FREYJA anti-ballistic missile program.

"Ukraine will be the first to receive the new, upgraded French-Italian SAMP/T NG systems. These are effective anti-ballistic systems. France will also provide two SAMP/T systems to strengthen our defenses as early as this year. At the same time, France and Italy will expedite deliveries of Aster 30 missiles by October of this year,” the head of state said.

In addition, Ukrainian pilots and mechanics will begin training in France this year, after which the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive the first four of 16 Rafale aircraft.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to partners to provide 300 missiles for the Patriot systems.
