The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to the Verkhovna Rada to update and extend the state program for the decommissioning of the Chornobyl NPP until 2036.
This was announced by the Ministry of Energy, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
It is noted that the document specifies the list of measures and sources of financing for the decommissioning of the Chornobyl NPP and the transformation of the Shelter facility into an environmentally safe system.
The total amount of financing for the program until 2036 will be about UAH 50.8 billion, of which UAH 45.6 billion are planned to be allocated from the state budget, another UAH 5.2 billion - at the expense of international technical assistance.
The Ministry of Energy notes that the need to update the current program is due to the completion of the stages of cessation of operation and preparation for decommissioning of the Chornobyl NPP, the next stage will be the direct decommissioning of the station and the further transformation of the Shelter facility into an environmentally safe system.
The draft act also establishes additional tasks and measures to eliminate the consequences of damage to the structures of the New Safe Confinement arch caused by a direct hit by a russian unmanned aerial vehicle.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February 2025, a russian strike drone with a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter covering the destroyed power unit No. 4 at the Chornobyl NPP.
As a result, the integrity of the outer shell of the New Safe Confinement and equipment in the crane maintenance garage were damaged.
