Oleksii Sukhachov, the director of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), noted that the proposed reform of the SBI would lead to the Bureau's dissolution.

According to Oleksii Sukhachov, the audit findings confirmed that the SBI is capable of fully carrying out the tasks assigned to it.
“What is currently being proposed as reform is the destruction of the Bureau. For example, our investigators are currently working on more than 372,000 criminal cases. My question is: what will happen to the status of the pre-trial investigation in most of these cases if all SBI employees are required to undergo certification?” Sukhachov noted.
He emphasized that the Bureau is not opposed to changes that strengthen the institution, but warns against decisions that could effectively halt the agency’s work during wartime and jeopardize the investigation of hundreds of thousands of cases.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine has committed to reforming the State Bureau of Investigation as a condition for joining the European Union. Earlier, MP Serhii Vlasenko criticized the European Commission’s demands to overhaul the selection system for the State Bureau of Investigation, the National Police, and the Prosecutor General's Office. He stated that the Commission is proposing hybrid models to Ukraine that do not exist in any EU country. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed officials to draft a bill on reforming the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
