President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is proposing that the Verkhovna Rada establish a new state award—the Order of Europe—to recognize support for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. This is outlined in draft law No. 15359, which was registered with the Rada on June 28, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

It is envisaged that the Order of Europe will be awarded to Ukrainian citizens and foreign nationals for outstanding personal contributions to supporting Ukraine’s strategic course toward full membership in the European Union, significant contributions to helping Ukraine strengthen its resilience in defending its independence and the security of all of Europe, as well as to strengthening international cooperation in the interests of democracy, peace, and good neighborliness, and fostering friendly and comprehensive relations between nations.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, state awards are established exclusively by the laws of Ukraine.

In January, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine expects to become a member of the European Union in 2027 and hopes for support for this position from its partners.
