Ukraine is counting on a specific date of accession to the European Union in 2027 and on the support of its partners for this position. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this in a telephone conversation with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker on Tuesday, January 27.
Zelenskyy emphasized that one of the key security guarantees for the whole of Europe is Ukraine's accession to the European Union. According to him, security guarantees were one of the topics of discussion at the trilateral meeting of the delegations of Ukraine, the United States and russia in Abu Dhabi.
"Ukraine's accession to the European Union is one of the key security guarantees not only for us, but for the whole of Europe. After all, the common strength of Europe is possible, among other things, thanks to Ukraine's security, technological and economic contributions. That is why we are talking about a specific date - 2027 - and we count on our partners to support our position," the Head of State emphasized.
The President of Ukraine also told Stocker about russian strikes on the energy sector and invited the Austrian Chancellor to personally visit Ukraine and continue the dialogue.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on January 22, the European Union allocated the first EUR 10 million for the creation of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.
On January 5, the European Union announced the existence of progress on security guarantees for Ukraine.
As a reminder, on December 17, 2025, Hungary again blocked the adoption of the European Union's annual enlargement statement, which contained an assessment of Ukraine's progress towards EU membership.
