The US military said it carried out strikes on Iran, including missile and drone sites, and coastal radar stations, after attack on merchant ship in Strait of Hormuz.

This is announced in a statement by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on the X network.

"On June 26, US Central Command forces launched strikes against Iran in a decisive response to yesterday's attack on a merchant vessel passing through the Strait of Hormuz," CENTCOM said.

The CENTCOM statement noted that US aircraft struck Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar stations, after Iran attacked the Ever Lovely vessel with a single-use drone on June 25.

"At the time of the Iranian attack, the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel was exiting the Strait of Hormuz along the coast of Oman," CENTCOM added.

"The Iranian armed forces' unprovoked aggression against merchant shipping is a clear violation of the ceasefire. In addition, Iran's dangerous behavior undermines freedom of navigation at a time when more and more trade flows pass through this vital international trade corridor," CENTCOM stressed.

The US military also said that they "continue to coordinate the safe passage and provide support to merchant vessels transiting the strait."
