A 26-meter-high monument to football player Lionel Messi was unveiled in the Argentine city of Cutral-Co, Neuquén province. The statue was officially unveiled during a ceremony.

The sculpture depicts the football player celebrating Argentina's victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The composition also recreates the World Cup and the three stars on the jersey, symbolizing the team's titles.

The author of the project was local sculptor Aldo Beroisa. Work on the structure lasted about a year with the participation of construction crews and residents of the city.
The monument is made of a steel frame and concrete coating. Its weight exceeds 70 tons. The monument became the tallest statue of a football player in the world, surpassing the 21-meter sculpture previously installed in Kolkata, India.

During the opening, local authorities said that the object is considered a new tourist destination for the region. The ceremony was attended by residents of the city, tourists and football fans with Argentine flags.
As a reminder, Argentina national football team captain Lionel Messi scored his 17th goal at the World Cup and became the top scorer in the tournament's history.
