  • Negotiations between the United States and Iran took place in Switzerland and resulted in progress toward a peace agreement.
  • The parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to oversee the negotiation process and ensure the implementation of future agreements.

The first round of talks between the US and Iran, aimed at preparing a comprehensive peace agreement, has concluded in Switzerland. Following the meeting, the parties announced that progress had been made and agreed on a series of steps to continue the dialogue.

It was reported in a post by the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs on X and by CNN.

According to the mediators, the talks took place in a constructive atmosphere. The US and Iran agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to oversee the negotiation process and the implementation of future agreements. It is expected that the chief negotiators will report regularly to the committee and coordinate the work of thematic groups.

Separate working groups will address issues related to the nuclear program, sanctions policy, as well as monitoring the implementation of agreements and resolving potential disputes.

In addition, the parties approved a roadmap for drafting the final text of the agreement. Work on the document is expected to be completed within 60 days. Technical consultations on all key issues will continue in Switzerland through the end of this week.

The US and Iran also agreed to establish a coordination center to resolve regional conflicts. One of its tasks will be to promote compliance with the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that, as a result of the negotiations, restrictions on the export of Iranian oil and petrochemical products have been lifted, and some of the country’s assets frozen abroad have been unfrozen. He did not provide details regarding these agreements.

According to the Iranian foreign minister, significant progress was also made on ending hostilities in Lebanon through the mediation of Pakistan and Qatar.

The day before, the Iranian side had expressed doubts about continuing the negotiations due to harsh statements by US President Donald Trump. In particular, the US leader threatened Iran with potential control over the Strait of Hormuz and made harsh statements directed at the Iranian delegation. Despite this, the parties nevertheless continued their dialogue and concluded the first round of negotiations with agreements on further cooperation.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on June 15, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington and Tehran had agreed to a ceasefire and the signing of a framework agreement.
