The United States and Iran have agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding that calls for an end to hostilities between the two sides. This was reported by Reuters, referring to the statements of American officials.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the signing of the document after arriving in France, where he is participating in the G7 summit.
"The agreement has been fully signed. And the strait has already been partially opened," Trump said.
The official signing ceremony is expected to take place next Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. According to the media, US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf took part in the talks.
One of the key results of the agreements is the gradual restoration of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. According to American officials, vessel traffic has already begun to increase, and a full return to normal may take about two weeks.
"You will see a significant increase in traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, in fact it is already starting, and will gradually increase over time," one of the US representatives told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Against the backdrop of news of de-escalation, the oil market reacted by lowering prices, while the shares of a number of major companies went up.
At the same time, the details of the future agreement have not been officially made public. According to preliminary information, the parties have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire, during which diplomats will work on resolving disputed issues.
The US insists that Iran must not get nuclear weapons, and current sanctions can remain in place until Tehran fulfills all terms of the agreement.
In turn, the Iranian side is counting on the complete lifting of sanctions, the return of frozen assets and compensation for losses.
The situation in Lebanon remains a separate issue. Iran demands an end to Israeli strikes, but Israel says it intends to maintain a military presence in the country's south and reserves the right to respond to Hezbollah attacks. Washington emphasized that the withdrawal of Israeli troops was not part of these agreements.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the USA and Iran agreed on the cessation of hostilities - they promise to sign the peace on June 19.
The US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on February 28, has severely restricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and energy flows normally pass.
