Power engineers have restored external power to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant following yet another power outage caused by russian shelling.
It was reported by the Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Generating Company.
According to the company, power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP was restored on June 13 at 2:30 p.m. Currently, the plant’s own needs are being met via a 330 kV overhead power line.
Energoatom noted that this is the 19th instance of a complete loss of external power to the Zaporizhzhia NPP since its occupation by russian troops and the seventh blackout since the beginning of 2026.
The company emphasized that each power outage poses serious risks to the nuclear and radiation safety of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
"Only the return of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to the control of Ukraine and its legitimate operator can guarantee the safe operation of the facility and eliminate threats to Ukraine, Europe, and the world," Energoatom emphasized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the evening of June 10, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost its external power supply due to russian shelling. To ensure the operation of critical safety systems, the plant was forced to switch to backup power sources.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP has remained occupied by russian troops since March 2022. Ukraine and its international partners have repeatedly emphasized the unacceptability of the facility’s militarization and the risks to nuclear safety resulting from russia’s actions.
