Thirty companies have already joined the pilot project to involve the private sector in the air defense system. It was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

It is noted that the Ministry of Defense has granted these companies the status of entities authorized to carry out air defense operations.

According to the report, air defense groups from several companies are already carrying out combat missions as assigned; they have shot down more than 20 Shahed-type attack drones and Zala-type reconnaissance UAVs, with one group having shot down a Shahed-type jet-powered attack UAV.

In total, since the start of the pilot program, 43 enterprises of various ownership types from different industries and regions of Ukraine have submitted applications to the Ministry of Defense to establish their own air defense groups. Among the applicants who have already received authorization to carry out air defense measures, about half are operators and enterprises of critical infrastructure, while the rest are private-sector enterprises.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in March, the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the Ukrainian Air Force to provide critical infrastructure enterprises with air defense assets for protection.

In April, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that a private air defense group in the Kharkiv Region had shot down a jet-powered Shahed drone for the first time at a speed exceeding 400 km/h.
