Russian dictator vladimir putin has instructed the government of the aggressor country of russia and the FSB to introduce a mechanism for "whitelisting" Internet resources during network outages by July 1. This is reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).

The Center notes that this is actually about creating a system under which russians will have access only to a limited list of state-approved services. The russian authorities are increasingly resorting to Internet shutdowns, leaving available only resources that the Kremlin has defined as "vitally important".

The report emphasizes that despite russian propaganda claims that the restrictions are a manifestation of the authorities' concern for people's safety, in fact, the new measures expand the Kremlin's ability to control the information space and introduce new restrictions on citizens' access to independent sources of information.

"Thus, russia continues to move towards the model of a "sovereign Internet", under which the state determines which resources can be available to citizens and which cannot. To justify these restrictions, the Kremlin is conducting an active information campaign, in which the russian Orthodox Church is also involved," the CCD emphasized.
