The Romanian Defense Ministry said that they did not open fire on the drone, which later crashed into an apartment building in Galați, due to restrictions on the use of weapons and an extremely short time to react.

Representatives of the Defense Ministry reported this at a press conference, quoted by Digi24.

Defense Ministry spokesman Cristian Popovic said at a press conference that the military tracked the drone using radar after it entered Ukrainian airspace. According to him, the object disappeared from the surveillance systems, after which data appeared about its fall on the roof of a residential building.

Popovic noted that the decision not to open fire was related to the current rules for the use of force, which limit the risks of hitting objects on the territory of neighboring states. He added that the military should avoid actions that could create an additional threat.

Brigadier General Gheorghe Maxim clarified that to destroy an air target, time is needed for its detection, classification and use of weapons. According to him, the military had about four minutes at their disposal, which he called insufficient for a full response cycle.

Separately, the Defense Ministry recalled that since last year, Romania has had legislation in place that allows shooting down drones that violate the state's airspace.

In addition, Romania admitted that a russian drone of the Geran-2 type fell on a residential building in the city of Galați. After the impact, the drone exploded, injuring two people.
