The US military has launched new strikes on Iranian territory. The target was a military facility that, according to Washington, could have posed a threat to US forces and civilian shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

It was reported by Reuters and CNN, citing a US official.

According to media reports, during the operation, US forces also intercepted and shot down several Iranian drones that could allegedly have been used for attacks in the Strait of Hormuz area.

Reuters notes that these strikes took place amid negotiations to end the three-month conflict that began on February 28 following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The war has already resulted in thousands of casualties and a sharp spike in global energy prices.

The day before, US President Donald Trump denied reports by Iranian state media that Iran and Oman had allegedly agreed to jointly control shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump stated that “the waterway will remain open.”

The previous series of so-called “defensive strikes” by the US against Iran took place on Monday. At that time, Tehran called Washington’s actions a violation of the fragile ceasefire.

Among the targets of the American attacks were vessels that, according to the US Central Command, were attempting to lay sea mines, as well as missile launchers that could have threatened US military personnel in the region.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 25, US President Donald Trump gave Iran a deadline of “a few days” to finalize a framework agreement between Washington and Tehran.
