During a meeting with lawmakers from the ruling Servant of the People faction, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that it might be possible to end the active phase of russia's war in Ukraine by November, provided that security guarantees are provided. Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, announced this on her Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
According to the lawmaker, the lion’s share of the faction’s meeting with Zelenskyy, which took place on Monday, May 25, was devoted to the prospect of ending the active phase of the war.
"The President noted that, provided security guarantees are given, the possibility of ending the active phase by November is being considered. We currently have an advantage on the front lines that we can capitalize on. The main goal is to prevent Russia from deceiving us and, after a brief pause, launching new hostilities or a new offensive," she said.
Zelenskyy informed lawmakers that a decision is expected from Europe regarding who will serve as their moderator for the peace track, and also that Ukraine is expecting a delegation from the US in the near future.
There was also much discussion about the prospects of EU membership; the President said that all negotiation clusters should be opened by summer.
Regarding the issue of associate membership without voting rights and without trade and economic prospects, Zelenskyy said that such membership would not give Ukrainians a sense of justice.
Personnel issues were not discussed.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on May 22, following conversations with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Zelenskyy stated that he is awaiting an update on the US readiness to return to peace talks aimed at ending russia’s war in Ukraine.
