Following talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is awaiting an update on the US readiness to return to peace talks aimed at ending russia’s war in Ukraine. Zelenskyy announced this in his traditional evening video address, according to the Ukrainian News agency.

"I just spoke with our European friends: Britain, France, and Germany—the E3-Ukraine format. By the end of the week, there may be an update on the Americans’ readiness, and, of course, much depends on how the situation with Iran develops—America is focused on that. We are doing everything we can to intensify our diplomatic efforts and bring the war to an end," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine always advocates for Europe to be involved in the negotiations so that the European voice is taken into account. According to the President, they agreed that their national security advisors would meet in the near future.

Zelenskyy briefed his partners on the situation in Ukraine, noting that Ukraine’s position is now stronger than in previous years.

"Since the beginning of the year, 590 square kilometers of our territory have been liberated and are under our control; the trend is definitely not in the occupiers’ favor. We continue to increase the number of Russian personnel eliminated, and this, together with sanctions of all kinds, is forcing Russia to choose diplomacy," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that everything must be done now to intensify diplomatic efforts; he is awaiting a response from the US side regarding possible formats and a schedule for meetings.

Zelenskyy made this video address at a time when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that negotiations involving Washington regarding an end to russia’s war against Ukraine have been suspended due to a lack of progress; however, the US is ready to rejoin them if there is a chance of achieving results.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in May, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that Europe must prepare for direct dialogue with Moscow if US foreign policy ceases to align with the interests of the European Union. He emphasized that it is time for European leaders to consider taking a proactive role in resolving the conflict between russia and Ukraine.
