Ukraine recently achieved its most significant successes on front since operation in Kursk Oblast - ISW

In recent months, the Ukrainian army has conducted a series of counter-offensive operations, achieving its most significant successes since the operation in the Kursk Oblast of the aggressor country of the russian federation. This is stated in a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

According to ISW analysts, as a result of counter-attacks since November 2025, the Ukrainian military managed to regain control over most of Kupyansk. Since the beginning of this year, more than 400 square kilometers of territory have been liberated in the south, and since the end of April, several settlements in the Zaporizhzhia Region.

The ISW noted that the counter-offensive operations of the Ukrainian army in the south led to a chain reaction of operational and strategic consequences for the ongoing russian spring-summer offensive. This forced russia to choose between defending against Ukrainian attacks and sending forces and resources to priority areas.

In addition, the ability of the occupiers to conduct offensive operations along the entire front line has been undermined by Ukraine's campaign to target russian military logistics, equipment, and personnel.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi recently said in an interview with Militarnyi that Ukrainian strikes, the destruction of reserves, and constant pressure on the occupiers' assault units have allowed the Ukrainian military to increasingly seize the tactical initiative and force the russians to respond to the operational pace set by Ukraine.

Syrskyi did not provide specific figures, but noted that as of May 14, the number of offensive actions by the Ukrainian army exceeded the number of offensive actions by the occupiers. ISW believes that this indicates that Ukraine is contesting the initiative at the tactical level.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on May 4, the commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, Major Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, said that the losses of the occupiers for the fifth month in a row exceed the level of recruitment of contract soldiers.

Recall, on April 23, the Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrskyi, said that since February of this year, the Ukrainian military has liberated more than 480 square kilometers of territory.
