The Ukrainian market is experiencing a downward trend in prices for new-crop white cabbage, while prices for last year's cabbage of acceptable quality are rising, on the contrary.

This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that the main reason for the decline in prices for young cabbage is the seasonal increase in the supply of this product on the market, as well as rather restrained demand.

Thus, as of today, cabbage of the 2026 harvest is offered for sale within UAH 34-40 per kilogram, which is on average 18% cheaper than at the end of the last working week.

Thus, farmers are forced to actively reduce prices for cabbage of the new harvest due to excess supply: most Ukrainian farms have already begun mass harvesting of early cabbage. The situation is also complicated by the relatively low sales rates of this product.

Wholesale companies and retail chains prefer purchases in small batches, given the short sales period of this product.

It is noted that farmers who have stocks of last year's cabbage of acceptable quality continue to revise their selling prices upwards.

Today, wholesale lots of white cabbage of the 2025 harvest are sold within UAH 10-17 per kilogram, while a week earlier the prices were UAH 8-15 per kilogram, depending on quality and volume.

According to market participants, the demand for last year's cabbage of appropriate quality remains stable.

Despite the rapid decline in prices, new harvest cabbage in Ukraine is currently being sold on average 14% more expensive than in the same period last year.

Experts explain this difference by a rather cold and prolonged spring.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early May, prices for last year's white cabbage began to rise in Ukraine, due to a rapid reduction in the supply of vegetables of the 2025 harvest due to seasonal factors.
