In April 2026, Ukraine imported 29 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is 28 times less than in March 2026 (789 million cubic meters) and 8 times less than in April 2025 (219 million cubic meters).
It was reported by ExPro, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
The report states that this is the lowest monthly figure for gas imports since December 2024.
The sharp drop in import volumes is linked to high natural gas prices in Europe, which remained higher than in Ukraine throughout March.
On average, gas in Europe (TTF) traded at EUR 9/MWh more in March than on the Ukrainian market.
Gas prices in Europe rose after the start of the war in the Middle East, which led to the suspension of LNG supplies from Qatar and the UAE.
Given the relatively high gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities, Ukraine can afford not to import gas for a certain period.
It is noted that in April, almost all gas supplied to Ukrainian UGS facilities came from Poland—23.8 million cubic meters, or 83% of total imports.
Imports from Poland remained relatively stable throughout the month—0.8 million cubic meters per day.
In addition, from April 16 to 22, gas was imported from Hungary directly into the Ukrainian gas transmission system—4.8 million cubic meters, or 13%.
According to ExPro estimates, natural gas could have been imported by state-owned and private companies in April, although import volumes were insignificant compared to previous months.
According to ExPro, Ukraine imported 2.21 billion cubic meters of natural gas in January–April 2026, which is 2.1 times more than in the corresponding period of 2025.
The largest volumes of gas came from Poland—1.03 billion cubic meters (46.8% of total imports), from Hungary—779 million cubic meters (35.3%), from Slovakia—280 million cubic meters (12.7%), and from the southern direction—117 million cubic meters (5.2%).
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, natural gas imports to Ukraine plummeted sharply starting in April—to 0.8 million cubic meters per day, the lowest level since January 2025.
In 2025, gas imports to Ukraine increased ninefold compared to 2024, reaching 6.5 billion cubic meters (724 million cubic meters in 2024).
