The other day, the 31st Ukrainian Antarctic expedition prepared 250 kg of sauerkraut. It should last for almost a year for a team of 14 polar explorers. The National Antarctic Research Center reported this.
"Such a stock should last at least until December, when the season begins in Antarctica and it will be possible to deliver something to the station. We remind you that our icebreaker "Noosfera" brings the main supply of products to "Vernadsky" once a year. And then, together with the seasonal expedition, it delivers fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, etc.," the message says.
It is noted that at the beginning of the wintering in Antarctica, it is important to properly prepare perishable products. They are processed and frozen or fermented, canned.

"So, sauerkraut is a traditional "team building" of each expedition. Now almost the entire team was involved in the process, and it took 5-6 hours," the Center said.
Chef Borys modestly noted that the recipe for cooking is ordinary: salt, carrots, cabbage. Three days of waiting, and polar explorers were already able to evaluate the result of their work.
Recall that earlier, Ukrainian polar explorers told how they count thousands of penguins.
