The redeployment of air defense systems from russian regions to moscow ahead of May 9 opens up additional opportunities for Ukrainian long-range strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on his Telegram channel, according to the Ukrainian News agency.
"Today I assigned specific tasks to the Defense Intelligence regarding the Russian air defense system. We see that in recent weeks, the air defense rings around Moscow have been further expanded due to the large-scale relocation of air defense systems from Russian regions. This indicates that the Russian leadership is not preparing for the ceasefire, about which so many statements have been made, and is more concerned about its parade in Moscow than about the rest of Russia. At the same time, we note that this opens up additional opportunities for our long-range strikes. Our corresponding priorities will be determined," he said.
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine has repeatedly proposed that russia move toward genuine diplomacy and ensure, through a ceasefire, the necessary trust in the diplomatic process and the conditions for achieving results.
"Ukraine’s proposals are on the table, and I am grateful to Ukraine’s partners for supporting our diplomacy and their readiness to act in kind. Russia must take steps to end its war and achieve real peace," he noted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy previously stated that the russian side had violated the ceasefire declared by Ukraine on May 6.
On April 29, russian dictator vladimir putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. The kremlin stated that putin proposed declaring a short-term ceasefire on May 9, and Trump allegedly supported this initiative.
Zelenskyy stated that russia, the aggressor country, had not discussed the implementation of a short-term ceasefire on May 9 with Ukraine; no one had contacted Kyiv regarding this issue, nor had any official proposals been sent.
