Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urged Washington to make a decision on Taiwan, emphasizing its significance for global stability, Reuters reports, citing an official statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"The Taiwan issue concerns China's core interests. The US must keep its promises and make the right choice," he said.

According to the diplomat, Taiwan remains the main source of tension between China and the US. "This is necessary in order to open up a new space for cooperation and ensure world peace," Wang Yi added.

The conversation took place on the eve of a possible summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which is planned to be held in Beijing.

"Both sides should safeguard stability, expand cooperation and resolve differences," the Chinese Foreign Minister stressed.

Currently, a fragile truce on trade issues, achieved during previous talks between the leaders, remains between the countries.

Recall that China has begun practicing an operation against Taiwan in the style of the US capture of Maduro.
