One of Israel’s largest grain importers, the Tsentsiper company, has canceled the unloading of a ship at the Port of Haifa due to suspicions that the cargo was stolen by russian occupiers on Ukrainian territory. It was reported by Newsru.co.il.
The decision to refuse the shipment was made due to the high risk of falling under international sanctions. The company officially informed the supplier that it must find another port to unload its cargo.
This incident highlights growing concerns within Israel’s private sector. Local companies fear restrictions from the European Union and criticize their own government for the lack of a clear official position and informational support regarding trade in sanctioned cargo.
Ukraine has repeatedly called on the international community to block russia’s attempts to sell stolen agricultural products on global markets. The case involving the Tsentsiper company served as yet another confirmation that international sanctions mechanisms are becoming a significant factor even for countries trying to maintain neutrality.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine sent a request to Israel to arrest a russian vessel carrying stolen Ukrainian grain. On April 28, Barak Ravid, a journalist for the American publication Axios, stated that the Panormitis had entered the Israeli port of Haifa with a cargo of grain stolen from the occupied territories of Ukraine.
