On Sunday, April 26, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant once again lost its external power supply. This marks the fifteenth such incident since the plant was seized in 2022.
Energoatom reported the incident. According to their data, the cause was a power loss due to the disconnection of a power transmission line.
"The 'Ferosplavna-1' power line was disconnected, causing the plant to go into blackout mode. For an hour and a half, the plant was powered by 19 backup diesel generators," the company noted.
After losing external power, the plant was forced to switch to backup power sources, which is a critical mode for a nuclear facility.
Energoatom emphasizes that every such incident creates additional risks.
"The situation once again confirms the need to return the plant to full Ukrainian control as soon as possible…," the company emphasized.
They also note that regular power outages increase the threat to nuclear and radiation safety not only for Ukraine but for all of Europe.
As a reminder, the Zaporizhzhia NPP previously operated on the single remaining power line.
