Four russian oil refineries have suspended operations since early April following strikes by Ukrainian drones. Reuters reported this on Wednesday, April 22.
The Syzran Refinery, located in Syzran, Samara Oblast, suspended operations following a Ukrainian drone strike on April 18. The strikes damaged the processing equipment necessary for refining crude oil.
The Syzran refinery has a capacity to process 8.5 million tons of crude oil per year. According to Reuters sources, in 2024 the facility processed 4.3 million tons of crude oil, producing 1.5 million tons of diesel fuel, 800,000 tons of gasoline, and 700,000 tons of fuel oil.
Also, on April 18, the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery (Novokuybyshevsk, Samara Oblast), owned by Rosneft, was shut down. The processing equipment necessary for oil refining was damaged as a result of the attack.
According to available data, in 2024, the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery processed 5.74 million tons of crude oil. It produced 1.6 million tons of diesel fuel, 1.2 million tons of fuel oil, and 1.1 million tons of gasoline.
Oil refining has also ceased at the Tuapse Refinery (Tuapse, Krasnodar Krai), which has been attacked twice by Ukrainian drones over the past week. Its production capacity is approximately 12 million tons of crude oil.
In early April, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery (Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast) suspended operations. It is russia’s second-largest gasoline producer, processing 16 million tons of crude oil per year.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, overnight on April 23, the Security Service of Ukraine used drones to attack the Gorky oil pumping station in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of the russian federation.
Also last night, residents of occupied Crimea reported a series of explosions in the Feodosia area. Following this, a fire broke out at a local oil depot.
