President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has taken up the creation of the Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians. Zelenskyy announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Zelenskyy said that he held a meeting on strategic issues of Ukraine's policy of memory and honoring national heroes, in particular, work has begun on creating the Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians.
"This is primarily about the return to Ukraine of historical figures - those figures who are of fundamental importance for the formation of Ukrainian national consciousness and for our statehood. It is also about the policy of heroes in Ukraine, a worthy memorialization of various stages of our history and the full return of all Ukrainian historical memory. We must create a special place of value consolidation of the Ukrainian people, which will definitely be important for future generations of Ukrainians and will preserve the memory of the generations of Ukrainians who created our culture and our state," he noted.
Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov noted in the Telegram channel that the Pantheon of Outstanding Ukrainians is a complex mission that requires the efforts of many state structures and the public.
"The principled position of the President of Ukraine finally gives the process of creating the pantheon the necessary impetus!" Budanov noted.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Budanov previously reported that the diplomatic institutions of Ukraine have identified 98 burials of Ukrainians in 21 countries, this data will be taken into account in preparation for the creation of the Pantheon in Kyiv and the reburial of outstanding figures.
The Cabinet of Ministers planned to begin construction of the Ukrainian National Pantheon in Kyiv in 2021.
Back in 2017, the Ministry of Culture and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance studied the possibility of creating a pantheon for the honorary burials of Ukrainians in Kyiv.
