The Cabinet of Ministers has already allocated almost UAH 1 billion to Kyiv to prepare for the next winter. Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko has announced this on her Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"The government is helping Kyiv prepare for the next winter and ensure uninterrupted heat supply. We are working in dialogue with the city authorities. We have coordinated actions to implement the Resilience Plans... The government has already allocated UAH 987 million for priority measures and is ready to continue to provide full support. At the same time, we expect the city to make timely decisions and organize work at the facilities that are the responsibility of local authorities," she said.
Svyrydenko noted that due to the significant damage to the CHPPs, the city must now prepare the infrastructure to ensure stable supply of heat and light to people, even under shelling, and the key task is to cover the needs of all districts with alternative energy sources and protect critical facilities.
She added that some of the work will be carried out by the Recovery Agency, and some by the city on its own. Svyrydenko emphasized that the work should be completed on time and in full.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in March, the Cabinet of Ministers instructed Kyiv to finalize the resilience plan by April, providing for the development of distributed heat supply.
The total budget of Kyiv's resilience plan is UAH 61.6 billion, of which the city's own funds amount to UAH 10.6 billion, and the need for additional funding is UAH 51 billion.
On March 3, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the National Security and Defense Council had approved resilience plans for the next winter for all regions, except Kyiv.
In February, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the Darnytsia Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP) was critically damaged during the russian attack on February 3, and that it would take at least two months to repair.
