Shamar Elkins, who opened fire in the state of Louisiana (USA) on April 19, shot and killed seven of his own children. This was reported by police spokesman Christopher Bordelon, NBC News writes on Monday, April 20.

Police noted that the shooter shot a total of eight children, seven of whom were his own. His wife and another girl were also injured.

"According to the Caddo County Coroner's Office, the children who were killed included three boys and five girls, ages 3 to 11. It appears many of them were shot in their sleep, most in the head," police spokesman Bordelon said.

In addition, Elkins previously served in the Louisiana Army National Guard and had a criminal record, Bordelon said.
