A mass shooting occurred in the United States, as a result of which eight children under the age of 14 were killed, and at least 10 more people were injured. The incident occurred in the city of Shreveport on the morning of April 20.
According to police, the shooting took place in three residential buildings and is being considered a case of domestic violence. Some of the killed were presumably relatives of the attacker.
Shreveport police spokesman Christopher Bordelon said that in addition to the eight killed children, at least ten were injured, but details about their condition were not specified, Reuters writes.
After the attack, the suspect stole a car and tried to flee, but was killed by law enforcement during a pursuit.
"This is a tragic situation, perhaps the worst tragic event we have ever had," said Mayor Tom Arceneaux.
House Speaker Mike Johnson said his team was in contact with local authorities about the "terrible tragedy."
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry also responded to the incident, saying he and his wife were "heartbroken by this terrible situation and praying for all those affected."
According to monitoring organizations, this incident was the latest in a series of mass shootings in the United States this year.
