German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is planning to convene a National Security Council in the near future to discuss the country's energy and fuel supply situation.

This is reported by dpa.

Merz said that the aim is to ensure a reliable supply of basic fuels such as diesel, petrol and jet fuel. The German Chancellor stressed that securing supply chains remains a priority and that the government will use "all available tools" to maintain stability.

"The situation is tense, but supplies are secure. If the situation worsens, we are ready to take action," he said.

Earlier, Economy Minister Katherina Reiche said that measures were being prepared in case of a kerosene shortage, while warning against panic. Reiche said that she and the Ministry of Transport had invited industry representatives to talks on Monday, which will include airports, airlines and fuel suppliers.

"Panic over kerosene does not help anyone," she told the publication.

The National Security Council is designed to ensure a rapid response to crisis situations. It includes members of the federal government and law enforcement agencies, and may also include representatives of Germany's federal states.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of April 1, the European Commission warned of a serious and prolonged energy crisis against the backdrop of the conflict in the Persian Gulf and urged citizens to change their daily habits - in particular, to work from home more often and use transport less.
