Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko has instructed National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi to conduct an internal investigation into the actions of police officers during the April 18 terrorist attack in Kyiv and provide all information to the State Bureau of Investigation. He said this on his Telegram channel.

"'Serve and protect' is not just a slogan. It must be backed up by appropriate professional actions. Especially at critical moments when people's lives depend on it," Klymenko emphasized.

He also noted that the results and decisions of the internal investigation will be made public by the National Police as soon as possible.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Saturday, April 18, after noon, bloody events unfolded in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv. At first, local residents began to talk on Telegram channels about the sounds of gunfire they heard in the yards of their homes. Later, videos appeared, shot on phones, showing a man who was just moving quickly down the street and shooting at almost everyone he met.

During the police operation, the attacker barricaded himself in a local supermarket and took hostages. Negotiations between law enforcement officers and the attacker did not yield any results. During the storming of the store by special forces, the shooter was eliminated.

Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko said that the shooting in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv, which killed six people, was qualified as a terrorist act.
