The shooting in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv, which killed six people, has been classified by law enforcement as a terrorist act. Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko has reported this on his Telegram channel.

"Criminal proceedings have been initiated over the shooting of civilians and hostage-taking in the Holosiivskyi District of the capital under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a terrorist act that led to the death of people," he wrote.

Law enforcement officers found that the shooter was a man born in 1968 who used a registered firearm.

"Six people were killed by the attack. Among them were a man who died at the scene and a woman who died in the hospital from her injuries. Their son, born in 2015, with a gunshot wound, is in a children's medical institution, where he is being provided with the necessary assistance," Kravchenko said.

He added that the pre-trial investigation is being carried out under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office. In addition, in cooperation with the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine, all necessary measures are being taken to establish the circumstances of the crime, as well as the motives for its commission.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Saturday, April 18, in the afternoon, bloody events unfolded in the Holosiivskyi District of Kyiv. First, local residents began to talk on Telegram channels about the sounds of gunfire they heard in the yards of their homes. Later, videos appeared, shot on phones, showing a man who was simply moving quickly down the street and shooting at almost everyone he met.

During the police operation, the attacker barricaded himself in a local supermarket and took hostages. Negotiations between law enforcement and the attacker did not yield any results. During the storming of the store by special forces, the shooter was eliminated.
