US President Donald Trump has again criticized NATO, accusing the Alliance of refusing to join the war waged by the United States and Israel against Iran. He said this in a speech at the Turning Point Action event in Arizona.
The current occupant of the White House was quoted by NBC News.
When Trump mentioned the North Atlantic Alliance, the audience booed him, and he said that NATO was "completely ineffective when we needed it."
He compared NATO to a man who Trump claimed tried to make a campaign donation after he won the presidency.
"And I said: "Listen, just so you understand, campaign donations after I win don't count, they don't count." And NATO, after our victory, it doesn't count either, it's the same thing," the president said.
Trump also reiterated his claim that the war with Iran was just a "field trip."
"It was just a military excursion. This is not the most important thing. It's not the most significant event," he added.
According to the Ukrainian News agency, Trump has repeatedly criticized NATO for not joining efforts to restore navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In particular, on April 17, Trump once again rejected any offer of assistance from NATO allies in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump has previously stated that he is seriously considering the possibility of the United States withdrawing from NATO.
