The Donald Trump administration is increasing pressure on European partners, demanding that they take on the main burden of ensuring security in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. This is reported by Bloomberg.

Washington expects allies to provide concrete plans and commitments to ensure freedom of navigation in the coming days. This issue became key during recent closed consultations at the White House, the Pentagon and the Department of State, where the American leader met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

According to a senior source in the Alliance, the White House is no longer satisfied with general promises and is demanding a clear roadmap for actions after the cessation of active hostilities in Iran. The situation around the strait remains critical, as its prolonged blockade has already caused a sharp jump in world energy prices and put the world economy at risk of fuel shortages.

More than 40 countries, including Japan, Canada and most of Europe, are now part of a coalition led by Britain that has pledged to help open the sea route. However, Trump insists that European allies should be the main guarantors of security in the region, minimizing the direct involvement of American forces.

Washington's tough tone once again emphasizes the new US policy: to shift responsibility for regional security to partners who directly depend on the stability of oil supplies.
