Ukraine has agreed on a new large-scale cooperation package with Germany worth EUR 4 billion, under which Germany will finance a contract for several hundred Patriot missiles and the supply of 36 IRIS-T air defense launchers. Following talks with German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov announced this on Tuesday, April 14.
The agreed package of defense agreements totaling EUR 4 billion will strengthen Ukraine's air defense, promote the development of long-range capabilities and joint production of drones, Fedorov emphasized.
According to him, Ukraine and Germany signed three important agreements:
- Strengthening air defense - Germany will finance a contract for several hundred Patriot missiles, and is also to supply 36 IRIS-T launchers to strengthen Ukrainian air defense.
- Deep-strike development - Germany will invest EUR 300 million in long-range weapons so that Ukraine can increase its own production.
- Drone production - Ukraine and Germany are launching joint production of mid-strike drones using artificial intelligence. The first stage will include 5,000 drones for the Defense Forces.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 13, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that Ukraine would receive EUR 1 billion in defense assistance from Belgium and Spain this year.
