Ukraine will receive EUR 1 billion in defense aid from Belgium and Spain this year. The results of negotiations with the defense ministers of these countries were announced by the head of the Ukrainian defense ministry, Mykhailo Fedorov.
In addition to large-scale financial support, Belgium confirmed its readiness to provide Ukraine with additional F-16 fighters and spare parts for fleet maintenance. During the talks, the parties focused on strengthening air defense, developing drone production and implementing the projectile initiative.
"Belgium is allocating EUR 1 billion in defense aid to Ukraine this year. The country has also confirmed its intention to provide Ukraine with additional F-16 fighters and spare parts for existing aircraft. Spain is also providing EUR 1 billion in support of Ukraine this year," Fedorov said.
The Minister also suggested that foreign partners cooperate more actively in the field of defense technologies. In particular, Spanish companies have been offered to test their drones directly in combat conditions on the territory of Ukraine. According to Fedorov, this approach will help Spanish developers improve their equipment, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive the most advanced technological solutions for the frontline.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Ukraine has not yet received any of the six F-16s promised by Norway, they are "stuck" for repair in Belgium.
