Ukraine and NATO are stepping up coordination to strengthen the country's air shield amid global security challenges. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced this during a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The key issue of diplomatic efforts remains the stable supply of expensive missiles for Patriot air defense systems, the cost of each of which starts at USD 3-4 million.

"Strength for air defense is our key priority, and people's lives must be protected. We are preparing news about PURL," the head of state said following the talks on Tuesday, April 14.

The PURL program plays a critical role in securing the Ukrainian sky: in 2025 alone, the total amount of contributions under this initiative amounted to USD 4.3 billion. The parties are currently working on the next aid packages. In addition to technical support, Zelenskyy and Rutte paid attention to the need for unity of the allies, as, according to the President, in the current circumstances it is extremely important to coordinate and strengthen each other to counter common threats.

Germany has assembled about 30 interceptor missiles for Patriot for Ukraine.

Ukraine may face a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems amid the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
