The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) has granted Kyivstar, the largest mobile operator, permission to purchase solar power plants in the Lviv Region.
This is announced in a statement by the Antimonopoly Committee, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Permission has been granted to PrJSC "KYIVSTAR" to acquire control over LLC "Energopostach-Plus", LLC "Lightfull", LLC "Sunlight Generation", LLC "Ternovytsia Solar", LLC "Energy Space" and LLC "Ternovytsia Solar Plus," the decision of the AMCU meeting dated March 26 says.
The Ukrainian edition of Forbes previously wrote that the beneficiary of four solar power plants is the owner of the Greenville development company Ivan Torskyi.
Two more are the Trofymenko family, which owns the largest Multiplex cinema chain in Ukraine.
The total capacity of 6 solar power plants as of 2021 was about 103.9 MW.
In 2021, the owners of the solar power plants tried to sell these same facilities to the French energy giant Total. The parties filed an application with the Antimonopoly Committee, but there was no further news about the closing of the deal.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the AMCU at a meeting on November 6, gave permission to mobile operator Kyivstar to acquire a controlling stake in the authorized capital of renewable energy producer Sanvin 11.
Kyivstar has the largest mobile and fixed-line network in the country and serves about 24 million subscribers.
Kyivstar's digital services portfolio includes the digital health platform Helsi with a registered user base of 28 million and the film and television platform Kyivstar TV.
VEON's largest shareholder is LetterOne Group, which was created by the founders of the russian Alfa Group Mikhail Fridman, German Khan and Alexei Kuzmichev.
In 2022, they left the Board of Directors after russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions against Fridman.
