The Ukrainian side is ready to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the russian-Ukrainian war at the level of the leaders of the countries. Meanwhile, russia is seeking an ultimatum solution with the withdrawal of troops from the territories controlled by Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said this in an interview with Reuters.
"Ukrainians are serious about negotiations. We believe that we need to talk, preferably at the level of leaders, we are ready for this," Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine added that the russian side wants an ultimatum to end the hostilities so that Ukraine accepts their conditions. In particular, the independent withdrawal of the Armed Forces from the territories controlled by Ukraine in the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions.
Zelenskyy argues that both the Ukrainian and russian sides understand how long it will take for the aggressor state to capture this territory with losses of 28,000, 30,000, 35,000 soldiers per month.
"And it is not a fact that they will capture it. They can bury from 300,000 to a million of their soldiers there. They don't value human life, but they realize that it's money," he added.
In addition, according to Zelenskyy, the kremlin does not fully understand the public outcry: whether people will get used to it or not.
"That's why they are looking for such a dialog with the Americans. "Tell Ukrainians there is nothing to fight for." We are well aware of this Russian rhetoric: "There is nothing to fight for. Six thousand square kilometers". We are explaining to our partners, and in my opinion, absolutely reasonably, why this is not the case," the President of Ukraine explained.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy said that the United States is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees for a peace agreement if Kyiv hands over the entire Donbas to the aggressor country of russia.
At the same time, back in January, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the documents on the United States' security guarantees for Ukraine were fully prepared and were waiting to be signed
However, the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera wrote that Ukraine was offered to give up the part of the Donbas it controls in exchange for USD 800 billion and security guarantees.
