Radio technology specialist Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov said that Ukraine began implementing protection of Ukrzaliznytsia from drone strikes a few months late, but now comprehensive solutions already allow for the preservation of a significant number of trains.
The specialist said this in his Telegram.
Civilian specialists and military personnel from the Main Directorate of Radio Electronic and Cyber Warfare of the General Staff are involved in the work on protecting railway infrastructure and rolling stock. The process is coordinated by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to Beskrestnov, the organization of protection of stationary facilities mainly depends on funding, while the safety of trains in motion is a much more complex technical task. He noted that complete protection is impossible to achieve.
"On the bad side: unfortunately, I have to admit that we are many months late in taking measures to counter UAVs attacks on Ukrzaliznytsia. On the good side: you can't even imagine how many trains we have already managed to save thanks to the current comprehensive solutions," "Flash" wrote.
The most vulnerable remain trains and suburban trains that run along the front line at a distance of 30-60 kilometers. They are the targets for FPV drones, loitering munitions and winged drones.
Specialists are working on a combination of electronic warfare, electronic reconnaissance and long- and short-range air defense systems.
We remind you that in the Kharkiv Region a russian drone hit an electric train: a 61-year-old passenger was killed, the driver and his assistant suffered an acute stress reaction.
Due to the increasing risks of attacks on railway infrastructure, Ukrzaliznytsia has strengthened security measures and developed a clear algorithm of actions for passengers in the event of a threat during a trip. When drones directly threaten the train, passengers will be removed from the car.
