Former MP from the Opposition Bloc, oligarch Vadym Novinsky, who is currently abroad, criticized the past and current policy and stated that the war could have been avoided, and peace is the only way for Ukraine to survive.
He said this in an interview with the Spanish TV channel HerqlesTV, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
According to Novinsky, during the negotiations in Istanbul in the spring of 2022, the parties were close to signing a framework agreement that provided for the neutral status of Ukraine, a deferred decision on Crimea, and granting special status to Donbas. However, the former MP notes, "the negotiation process was disrupted due to external political factors." He did not specify what factors he was referring to.
He also criticized the internal situation in Ukraine. According to him, all real power today is increasingly concentrated around the Office of the President. According to the politician, corruption in the defense and energy sectors has become systemic, which seriously undermines trust in both society and the army itself.
Novinsky, who is an active member and supporter of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), also claims that the church is under pressure from the state to change the religious landscape of the country.
In addition, the former MP is convinced that Ukraine now needs an end to the war. "Peace for Ukraine is like air," he stressed. In his opinion, continuing the war will lead to catastrophic demographic and economic losses, and after its end, the country will still have to go through a "complex and painful process of internal reconciliation."
Recall that at the end of 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, by his decree, put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council, by which it imposed sanctions on Vadym Novinsky.
