Last week, Ukraine saw a rise in prices for greenhouse cucumbers.

This was stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The report states that the rise in cucumber prices is due to stable demand against a background of rather limited supply.

Last week, the volumes of harvest in local greenhouses decreased noticeably, while trading activity in this segment continued to grow.

Today, Ukrainian greenhouse plants ship cucumbers at UAH 135-175 per kilogram, which is on average 10% more expensive than at the end of the previous working week.

According to producers, the price increase is caused by several factors, namely a significant decrease in supply, as the selection of cucumbers in local greenhouses has sharply decreased, and a significant cold snap, which led to a decrease in yield.

According to experts, cucumber supplies from Turkey have been reduced to a minimum due to the seasonal factor, which also allows local producers to raise prices in conditions of active demand.

As of the last decade of March this year, the cost of greenhouse cucumbers on the domestic market was on average 34% higher than in the same period last season.

But market participants predict that in the near future this product may begin to fall in price again under the pressure of increasing supply from local greenhouse plants.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, tomatoes are becoming more expensive in Ukraine.
