Last week, a shortage of greenhouse tomatoes began to be felt on the Ukrainian market, as a result of which importers were able to slightly increase prices for existing batches of vegetables.
This is stated in a report by the EastFruit project, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The report states that experts explain this trend by a reduction in the volume of supplies of imported tomatoes to Ukraine, in particular from Turkey, due to a decrease in shipments from this country.
Thus, as of the end of last week, tomatoes in Ukraine are offered for UAH 120-140 per kilogram, which is on average 10% more expensive than the week before.

The week before last, importers and wholesale companies were focused on selling vegetables purchased at the beginning of the month but not sold on time.
Thus, new supplies to the market were entering the market in minimal volumes and as a result, a shortage of tomatoes has already formed on the domestic market, which allowed importers to raise prices.
Market participants note that in the near future, an increase in tomato supplies from Turkey is expected, which will help balance the market and stabilize prices.
It is noted that currently imported tomatoes in Ukraine are sold on average 45% more expensive than in the same period last year.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, last week, an increase in the supply of carrots on the Ukrainian market led to another price drop.
