Yellow spots with a characteristic odor were found by environmentalists near the Odesa coast. The State Ecological Inspectorate of the Southwestern District has reported this.
Laboratory analysis of seawater samples near Odesa's Vidrada and Lanzheron beaches confirmed the presence of fats and oils at 49.8 mg/dm³. Experts believe that the incident was caused by the russian shelling of port infrastructure on December 20, 2025, when significant volumes of products entered the Adzhalyk Estuary.
"The Inspectorate has taken the necessary response measures, informed the relevant services to organize work to eliminate the consequences of pollution," the agency said. Currently, the monitoring of the state of the sea water continues, and experts continue to record the extent of the environmental consequences of the attack.
As a reminder, after the russian missile and drone attack on energy infrastructure facilities on March 7, oil pollution was detected in the Dniester River, oily spots and a film on the water surface were found in the Chernivtsi, Vinnytsia and Odesa Regions along the river. Laboratory tests have confirmed that the content of oil products in the water exceeds the standards.
After the russian attack, the content of oil products in the Dniester exceeded 2.5 times, Odesa recommended to strengthen water treatment.
