President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his worries about possible peace talks with russia due to the United States' shift in attention to the conflict in the Middle East. He said this during a visit to the UK in an interview with the BBC.
The President explained that trilateral meetings are constantly postponed because of the war in Iran.
"I have a very bad feeling about the impact of the conflict on the war in Ukraine. Unfortunately, America is more focused on the Middle East than on Ukraine," the head of state said.
According to him, despite the difficult geopolitical situation, the negotiating groups continue to work on a daily basis.
"President Trump is focused on Iran. The negotiating teams are talking to each other. Our group talks to the American side every day. I know that the Americans also talk to the Russians every day," Zelenskyy said.
The President also spoke about the venue of the upcoming meeting. He said that the American side had expressed its readiness to host both sides in America because of the war in Iran. Ukraine has confirmed its participation, but russia has categorically opposed the talks in the United States.
"Ukraine will support any date and any place, but definitely not in Russia," Volodymyr Zelenskyy summarized.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy called the search for a place for talks "Santa Barbara" because the US and russia cannot reach an agreement.
Also, trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and the aggressor country russia are postponed due to the situation around Iran at the suggestion of the American side.
