Trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and the aggressor country russia are postponed due to the situation around Iran at the suggestion of the American side. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced this on Monday, March 9.
Zelenskyy noted that the negotiation team is actually communicating with the American side 24/7. According to him, Ukraine has reaffirmed its readiness to work to end russian aggression, but now russia continues to try to manipulate the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf region in favor of its aggression, the President emphasized.
"At the moment, the priority of our partners and all attention is focused on the situation around Iran, and that is why the meeting that was planned for this week at the suggestion of the American side is postponed. But Ukraine is ready for a meeting at any time in a format that can help and will be realistic in terms of ending the war," Zelenskyy said.
The head of state also instructed the team to reaffirm to the American side its readiness to help in the defense against attack drones. In his opinion, russia now wants to turn the Iranian regime's strikes on its neighbors and American bases into a second front against Ukraine and, more broadly, the entire West.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on March 5, US President Donald Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not ready enough for peace talks and is an obstacle to them.
On March 5, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine's voluntary withdrawal from the Donbas would allow the aggressor country russia to save the lives of about a million of its soldiers.
On March 6, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said that work on a peace agreement that would end the war in Ukraine continues.
