The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, Ali Larijani, who became the de facto leader of the regime. This was reported by The Times of Israel and the IDF in the official X-account on Tuesday, March 17.

The IDF noted that Larijani, who was the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran and the de facto head of the regime, was considered one of the most experienced and highest-ranking figures in the leadership for many years. He was also a close associate of the eliminated Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

"Senior Iranian official Ali Larijani was killed in an Israeli air strike overnight," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said.

Larijani was targeted by the Israeli Air Force in the capital Tehran. The IDF also announced the death of the commander of the Iranian Basij organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - Gholamreza Soleimani. Israel emphasized that after Khamenei's death, Larijani became the de facto leader of the Iranian regime and led the military operations against the countries of the region. In addition, Larijani headed the political and security coordination of the Iranian terrorist regime and participated in the management of its international activities.
