Representatives of former US Presidents did not confirm Donald Trump's words that one of his predecessors highly praised his actions in Iran.
This is reported by CNN.
Trump twice in a day repeated the claim of praise from one of the former US Presidents, who in a conversation with him allegedly said "I wish I could do what you did". At the same time, Trump refused to name which of his four living predecessors this could have been, and also did not provide any evidence that such a conversation actually took place.
"Was it George W. Bush?" - a journalist asked the President in the Oval Office.
"No," - he replied.
"Was it Bill Clinton?" - the journalist continued.
"I don't want to say that," - Trump said.
There are four former Presidents alive: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
A Clinton spokesman told CNN that there have been no recent conversations between Clinton and Trump, either about Iran or anything else. And aides to Bush, Obama, and Biden have expressed similar sentiments, saying there are no records of any contact with Trump.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, several U.S. allies have already rejected US President Donald Trump's request for military support in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, saying "it's not their war."
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump, in a comment on Lebanon, unexpectedly mentioned Ukraine and expressed surprise that people continue to live in the country despite the war.
