Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has offered to mediate between Kyiv and Budapest to resolve the Druzhba oil pipeline. He made the announcement after a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Ukrinform reports.
The situation is specific: russia itself bombed the pipe, and Hungary now demands that Ukraine urgently repair it for the transit of russian oil. At the same time, Budapest continues to block billion loans for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, new sanctions, and negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Sikorski directly stated that such behavior by Hungary is unfriendly.
"It seems to me that Ukraine has reasons not to feel particularly grateful to Hungary. This is a very unusual situation: Ukraine is fighting for its life with russia and at the same time allows the transportation of russian oil through its territory to a country that behaves quite unfriendly towards Ukraine," the Polish minister emphasized.
According to him, it is time for Hungary to admit that due to Russian shelling it is necessary to look for other oil (for example, through Croatia), or to negotiate with Ukraine, taking into account its demands as well. It is for such negotiations that Sikorski offered his help.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on March 5, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that he would not make any compromises with Ukraine and would end the Ukrainian blockade of the Druzhba oil pipeline by force.
On March 3, Orbán appealed to the European Commission with a demand to influence Ukraine to restore oil transit, which stopped at the end of January due to damage to infrastructure as a result of russian shelling.
