Orbán promises to block any decision in favor of Ukraine until Kyiv resumes oil transit

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has appealed to the European Commission with a demand to influence Ukraine to resume oil transit, which was stopped in late January due to damage to the infrastructure as a result of russian shelling. He wrote about this on the social network X.

The Hungarian side claims that Kyiv has rejected proposals for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict and a technical inspection of the damaged area near the city of Brody.

"Until President Zelenskyy returns to common sense and normality, we will not support any decision beneficial to Ukraine," Orbán wrote.

The Ukrainian side explains the lack of transit by technical reasons and the need to carry out complex repairs under the threat of new attacks. At the same time, Hungary and Slovakia, which remain among the few consumers of russian oil in the EU, regard these actions as political pressure and have already resorted to countermeasures by limiting the supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine.

Orbán called Volodymyr Zelenskyy's reaction to demands to resume supplies "cynical", as the Ukrainian President noted that neighbors did not appreciate Ukraine's efforts to support the operation of the pipeline in wartime.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on February 23, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced that Slovakia had officially stopped emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.

On February 22, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico threatened to stop emergency electricity supplies if Ukraine did not resume oil supplies to his country.

On February 19, Slovakia announced the possibility of stopping electricity supplies to Ukraine amid the conflict over the transit of russian oil through the Druzhba oil pipeline.
